The Hinayana View

Wed., January 18, 2023
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Buddhism is not a religion in the usual sense of the word. It is a method of investigation that allows you to work skillfully with the positive potentials and negative energies of your own mind. The teachings of the Hinayana represent the most fundamental instructions of the Buddha, which are central to everything that follows. Hinayana studies, therefore, are a foundation to any training in Buddhism.

In the Nalandabodhi Path of Study, the Hinayana courses introduce you to Buddhism as a science of mind or method of investigation.  There are two courses:  The Hinayana View and The Hinayana Path and Fruition.

In the Hinayana View course, we explore more deeply the Four Noble Truths, the nature of self as described by the 5 skandhas (the elements that make up our experience of self), and the 12 links of dependent origination.   We will have a practicum of analytical meditation to explore these topics in a more experiential way.

The courses are based on talks by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, a contemporary Tibetan teacher and are facilitated by senior students, Eileen Kay, Rebecca White, and Janice Speas.

The course will be offered online, via Zoom.  Please register (below) in advance to receive the Zoom link

Cost:  Registration is fee is $25.

Dates and Time:  January 18 through February 22.  6:00 to 7:30 pm, Mountain time.
