Mudra Space Awareness: Where did it come from, why is it a precious jewel, and what are my reasons for loving it?
First presented to his Western students of performance, the roots of Mudra Space Awareness can be found in Chogyam Trungpa’s training in Tibetan monastic dance.
Although seldom practiced in the US today, this radical approach to relaxation and awareness offers people of many disciplines tools for cultivating the dharma as a means to live a wholesome life, or, as Trungpa would say, “to handle our world.”
We’ll look together at some of Mudra’s history and taste a few of its methods.
A longtime practitioner of Vajrayana Buddhism, she serves as one of four Mitras (Spiritual Friends) in the Nalandabodhi sangha, directed by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. Mitra Lee is the author of two books—Coming From Nothing: The Sacred Art of Acting and Teaching Presence: Field Notes for Players. She currently teaches and presents workshops in Mudra Space Awareness, Buddhism, and the performance of everyday life, both nationally and internationally.
