MAH303, the Third Course in the Mahayana Course Series
Not Even a Middle
Wednesdays, starting January 17, 2024, weekly for 10 sessions
Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche has said in a quote from the text that “Because of our strong habitual fixation on taking things to be really existent, we must first throw ourselves into the extremes of non existence, and thus find the Middle Way.”
This class explores the logic and reasoning of Madyamaka so that we can cut through our fixation and wrong views about the nature of phenomena. A few of the class topics include: Wisdom and the Middle Way, Prajna and the two realities, the Five Great Madyamaka reasonings, and the benefits and results of realizing emptiness.
Understanding Madyamaka is said to be crucial for grasping and realizing Vajrayana, Mahamudra and Dzogchen. It inoculates us from the tendency to cling to things as being really existent and all the suffering arises from that view. To free oneself from grasping can lead to being more relaxed and open in our daily lives.
Class will start on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 and includes 10 class sessions.
The class will be facilitated by Karunikas Steve Burden and Michael Miller.
