Mahayana Study Course 302
Kindling the Spark of Awakening
Weekly, starting October 4

Mahayana builds on the foundation of Hinayana, expanding our concern for our own happiness to include that of others. These teachings introduce us to the possibility of transforming even the most negative emotions into positive states of mind. By working with our emotions and exploring the illusory nature of all phenomena, we can develop a heart of genuine compassion. Mahayana also introduces us to the idea of buddha nature — the understanding that our hearts and minds are, from the beginning, the same as the Buddha’s.

We are announcing the second course in our Nalanabodhi Mahayana series, Kindling the Spark of Awakening. These Curriculum courses are required for members but are also open to the public.  Members of other Sanghas are also welcome. This course will consist of 9 weekly online classes.

Topics include: “The two main avenues to Bodhicitta or Awakened Heart”, “The Sevenfold causes and effects for generating Bodhicitta”,”Traveling from Planet Ego to Universal Altruism” and also covered are Tonglen and the Seven points of Mind training.

The 9 classes will include 3 meditation practicums to help us look at these topics in a more experiential way.

The development of Bodhicitta is the cornerstone of that both the Mahayana and Vajrayana practices rest upon. Bodhicitta is our main motivation for practice and it drives our desire to work for the benefit of self and others. It is the crucial basis for progress on the path.
